Front Desk Position Open, Seeking Volunteers for Coverage
Lana will be leaving the front desk position on July 2 - we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. We are now seeking a new administrative support specialist; please see ourjob posting on Indeed for further details. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in the position, send them to us directly (no need to apply through Indeed)! While we are looking for our new team member, we will need volunteers to help cover the desk. Do you have a few hours, or half a day, Tuesday–Friday between 9:00–5:00 p.m. to lend us a hand? Friday: Erev Shabbat and Sisterhood Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Friday, June 28, 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us for online or in person for our annual Sisterhood Shabbat! Come at 5:45 p.m. for a delicious oneg and stay for the service. During the service, we'll be recognizing our outgoing sisterhood board members and installing our new ones. Cantor Fine will also have a special role as part of his final service here at TBE. All Ages Welcome!

Saturday: Torah Study and Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Saturday, June 29, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. This will be followed by services, beginning at 10:00 a.m. (online and in person). At the conclusion of the service, the community is invited to join us in the social hall for a kiddush luncheon!
Seattle Sephardic Tours Sunday, June 30, 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Join the Washington State Jewish Historical Society and the Seattle Sephardic Network as we explore the rich history and culture of Seattle's current and historic Sephardic neighborhood. Seattle has the third-largest Sephardic population in the United States and this proud heritage is highlighted in this tour, which takes place in Seattle's Central Area, beginning at Washington Hall. Registration closes Wednesday, June 26 for the Sunday, June 30 tour. The next tour will be on Sunday, July 28 from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. For more information or to register, click here.
Pierce County Homeless Memorial Service Sunday, June 30, 5:00 p.m. This multi-faith Pierce County Homeless Memorial Service memorializes our Pierce County neighbors without a home who passed away during spring 2024. The next quarterly Homeless Memorial Service will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church in Tacoma. This event is organized by the Street Chaplains. Religicide: Confronting the Roots of Anti-Religious Violence (Zoom) Tuesday, July 2, 4:00–5:00 p.m. This online seminar featuring Georgette Bennett, author of Religicide: Confronting the Roots of Anti-Religious Violence, and Ambassador Rabbi David Saperstein, Former United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, will shed light on the upsurge of antisemitism and religious and cultural intolerance at home and abroad. TBE Baseball with the Tacoma Rainiers Wednesday, July 3, 6:05 p.m. It's a red, white, and blue extravaganza at Cheney Stadium! Join the TBE group on July 3 for an evening of fun, fireworks, and America's favorite pastime. Stay after the game for a fireworks show! Tickets are available here, but they’re selling out fast! Multicultural Shabbat Friday, July 5, 5:00–6:30 p.m. Come celebrate your heritage with your TBE community and learn about the rich diversity here at Temple Beth El. Guests can sign up to represent different cultures from around the world by sharing samples of food, music, art, or creating a table display in the social hall. Save the Date Hebrew II - First Session Wednesday, July 10, 5:30–6:30 p.m. You’ve learned the Hebrew letters and vowels, so let’s keep practicing! As you continue to hone your reading and writing skills, start to learn key vocabulary and grammar to help with understanding prayers and biblical texts. Home of Peace Geniza Opening and Annual Cemetery Cleanup Sunday, August 11, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. The Home of Peace Cemetery Association invites the entire community to participate in our annual clean-up day. Please plan to come for an hour or two to perform the mitzvah of washing headstones. All supplies will be provided. This year Rabbi Gorban will lead a brief ceremony at 12:00 p.m. as we carry out the ancient tradition of burying damaged or old sacred books in a genizah. Religious School Family Survey Help us plan for the 2024–2025 school year and beyond! The Religious Education Committee has designed a short survey for TBE families, asking you to share your hopes and dreams for your child(ren)'s Jewish educational experience(s). It truly is a brief survey, and your answers will help inform decisions about curriculum, programming, and events. The survey is completely anonymous and can be found at here. Sisterhood: Industrial Sewing Machines Needed Sisterhood needs the use of one or more industrial sewing machines for Sisterhood’s Food Bank Shopping Bags Project. To donate the use of your machine, please contact Mady Plumer at madshell33@icloud.com. JFS: Summer Market Gleaning Help Jewish Family Service (JFS) provide fresh produce for our community! One of the ways that the JFS Polack Food Bank receives fresh produce is through market gleaning at the Broadway Farmers Market on Capitol Hill. Volunteers support this effort two Sundays a month by collecting, transporting, and sorting gleaned produce collected at the end of the market day. All are welcome to attend; no previous knowledge of Judaism is needed to participate. For more information or to register, please clickhere.
JFS: Summer Farm Gleaning One of the ways that the JFS Polack Food Bank receives fresh produce is by engaging in farm gleaning at the Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center in Carnation, WA. Volunteers support this effort one Tuesday a month by harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the farm to send to our food bank. Families are welcome! Please consider your child's ability to be outside with minimal shade for the entire two hours in varying weather conditions before signing up (the recommended age for participating is 8 or older). The Summer Hours for the Judaica Shop will be Fridays from 5:45-6:45 p.m. before services and during the oneg. The shop will be closed the entire month of August and will reopen in September.
