Friday: Erev Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Friday, November 3, 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us online or in person for an Erev Shabbat service. Join us before the service for an oneg at 5:45 p.m., sponsored by Marc and Susan Mangel.

Saturday: Torah Study, Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Saturday, November 4, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. This will be followed by services beginning at 10:00 a.m. (online and in person). All are invited! At the conclusion of the service, please join us in the social hall for a potluck lunch and bring a dish to share! Dishes can be pescatarian (dairy and fish allowed).
Mississippi Summer (Seattle Jewish Theater Company) Sunday, November 5, 2:00 p.m. Temple Beth El will be hosting a performance of Mississippi Summer. This performance is sponsored by Lamed Vav and is free to the public.Written and directed by Art Feinglass, the historically based play is set in the summer of 1965 when hundreds of young volunteers traveled to Mississippi to work for civil rights. It focuses on three of those volunteers, two of them Jewish, on the outspoken local rabbi, and on a dynamic Black civil rights leader. The play will be performed by the Seattle Jewish Theater Company at Seattle and Tacoma venues, including Temple Beth El, in the fall. Bat Mitzvah of Min Michael Saturday, November 11, 10:00 a.m. The TBE community is cordially invited to the bat mitzvah of Min Michael on Saturday, November 11. For her bat mitzvah project, Min is planning to donate money to Oceana which is an organization that works to save the world's dying oceans. Welcoming the Stranger, Author Program and Book Launch (Tacoma Historical Society) Thursday, November 16, 6:30 p.m. Please plan to join local history buff Deborah Freedman at Tacoma Historical Society on November 16 to learn about a fascinating slice of Tacoma’s Jewish history. The evening’s talk explores the active USO-JWB outreach programs that had a pivotal impact on Tacoma’s Jewish community. The event also celebrates the launch of her new book, co-written by Harold Friedman, remembering Tacoma’s Reform congregation Temple Beth Israel. The book is a companion to The Shul, published in 2022. Both titles feature stories pulled from the pages of Tacoma’s historical newspapers, combined with decades of genealogical research. Copies will be available at the Tacoma history museum and on Amazon for $29.95, and at the Temple Beth El Sisterhood gift shop for $27. The event will be held at the Tacoma Historical Society, 406 Tacoma Avenue South (This is NOT the State History Museum on Pacific Avenue.) Speaker Series: A Fine Romance Thursday, November 16, 11:00 a.m. Join us in the temple social hall or online for A Fine Romance with Geoffrey Block. This is a free event, sponsored by Lamed Vav. Donations are appreciated. A Fine Romance: Adapting Broadway to Hollywood in the Studio System Era explores the symbiotic relationship between a dozen Broadway musicals and their Hollywood film adaptations, including some of the best loved, most admired, and most enduring works in their respective genres. Geoffrey Block explores twelve stage shows and their film adaptations spanning nearly a half century. A Fine Romance engages with aesthetic and critical concerns while also considering social issues, including race and ethnicity, class, gender, and sexual identity. Judaica Pottery Crafts with Glaze House Sunday, November 19, 12:30 p.m. Join us in the TBE social hall for an all-ages Judaica pottery workshop brought to you by Temple Beth El's religious education program. Registration Opens for Camp Kalsman With all that we have witnessed these past few weeks, having a place where our children and young adults can experience a true sense of belonging is more important than ever!
URJ Camp Kalsman is where every child is welcomed home, whether it's their 1st or 10th summer. At Kalsman, everyone comes just as they are to be part of a warm, tight-knit Jewish community. Summer can't come soon enough: registration opens Sunday, November 5 for new families that are members at URJ congregations. Check out session dates and be sure to secure your spot at camp!

Please Pick Up Your Temple Calendar TBE Hebrew calendars for 5784 are available for pick-up at the table in the rotunda. All temple members get one free calendar per household. Each family name is labeled on a large white envelope with your calendar inside. At the back of the tubs, there are additional calendars for sale for $8 each.
If you attend Saturday services online and wish to purchase your own copy of the Mishkan T'filah (the prayer book used at our Shabbat services), the Judaica Shop has them in stock! Come and check out our new Pride items and sale table. The Judaica Hanukkah shop will be open on November 29–December 3.
TBE Office Closure Notice Please note that the temple office will be closing at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22 for Thanksgiving break and will not reopen until 9:00 am on Tuesday, November 28.
