What's happening at TBE?
Friday: Erev Sukkot and Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Friday, September 29, 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us online or in person for an Erev Sukkot and Shabbat service led by Rabbi Gorban and Cantor Fine outside in the sukkah (please be sure to dress for the weather). The service is preceded by our annual Soup in the Sukkah dinner, so there is no oneg.

Saturday: Torah Study and Sukkot Day I and Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Saturday, September 30, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. This will be followed by services beginning at 10:00 a.m. (online and in person). All are invited! At the conclusion of the service, please join us in the social hall for a potluck lunch and bring a dish to share! Dishes can be pescatarian (dairy and fish allowed).
Soup in the Sukkah (in-person) Friday, September 29, 5:30 p.m. Our annual Soup in the Sukkah dinner to welcome Sukkot is this evening! This year's dinner is brought to you by Brotherhood. Menu: Salad, Tomato Soup, Mushroom Barley Soup, Chili, Dessert. The cost at the door if you haven't pre-registered is $7/person or $20/family (exact change, check, or online credit card payment are accepted); we will accept additional attendees as long as we have enough food.
Sisterhood General Meeting and Sip and Paint (in-person) Tuesday, October 3, 5:15 p.m. All Sisterhood members are invited! If you haven’t joined yet, fill out your application to join that night or go online. Cost: $8 for supplies and beverages (cash, check, or Zelle accepted).

Simchat Torah Dinner (in-person) Friday, October 6, at 5:00 p.m. Celebrate our new religious education students and welcome them to the wonderful, lifelong journey of Jewish learning. We’ll begin with a festive meal, followed by Consecration and a short holiday service. At the end of the service, we’ll unroll the Torah scroll and have our recent b-mitzvah chant their maftir portions. The Consecration and holiday service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Menu:Pasta Bar • Salad • Rolls. Cost: $15/person or $36/family. Registration is required, so sign up today!
Speaker Series: Around the World in Eighty Wines (multi-access) Thursday, October 19, 11:00 a.m. Inspired by Jules Verne’s famous novel, Mike Veseth will take you Around the World in Eighty Wines (in the temple social hall). The point of the trip isn’t to circumnavigate in a race against the clock, but rather to discover what it is about wine that has made it such an important part of global culture for thousands of years. Mike will tell some of the best stories from his recent book and help you understand and appreciate the world of wines you can find on the shelves of your local store. Will we taste a little wine? Save the Date
Mississippi Summer (Seattle Jewish Theater Company) Sunday, November 5, 2:00 p.m. Temple Beth El will be hosting a performance of Mississippi Summer. Written and directed by Art Feinglass, the historically based play is set in the summer of 1965 when hundreds of young volunteers traveled to Mississippi to work for civil rights. It focuses on three of those volunteers, two of them Jewish, on the outspoken local rabbi, and on a dynamic Black civil rights leader. The play will be performed by the Seattle Jewish Theater Company at Seattle and Tacoma venues, including Temple Beth El, in the fall.

Calling Volunteers for the Front Desk! October 10-13 Our office champion, Olivia, is taking a well-deserved and long overdue vacation Tuesday, October 10–Friday, October 13. To keep things running while she’s away, we need volunteers to cover the front desk. You will be responsible for answering phones, checking people in/out at the door, and some light mail-related activities. Ideally, you can be here for at least one full shift, 9:00 a.m.–noon or 1:00–5:00 p.m., but smaller chunks of time can be made to work.
