What's happening at TBE?
Friday: Erev Pet Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Friday, August 11, 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us online or in person for and Erev Pet Shabbat service led by Rabbi Gorban and Val Carlin. We invite you and your pets to join us for an evening Shabbat service featuring a special pet blessing! The service will be held outdoors; please follow the sign instructions upon arrival.
All well-behaved pets are welcome to attend. Pets must remain on leash or in a carrier and under supervision at all times.
Join us after the service for a special oneg sponsored by Donna & Lenny Reisberg in honor of the bar mitzvah of their grandson, Isaiah Magnelli. The oneg will be held in the courtyard, separately from the service location.

Saturday: Torah Study, Shabbat Service and Bar Mitzvah of Isaiah Magnelli (Multi-access) Saturday, August 12, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah Study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. This will be followed by services and the bar mitzvah of Isaiah Magnelli beginning at 10:00 a.m. (online and in person). All are invited! At the conclusion of the service, please join Isaiah and his family in the social hall for a Kiddush luncheon.
Annual Community Summer BBQ (In-person) Sunday, August 13, 11:30 a.m. Enjoy music, food, games and more. Temple will provide burgers, hotdogs and a vegetarian option with potluck sides and desserts. TBE’s Green Team/Dayenu Climate Change Circle Kick Off (In-person) Wednesday, August 16, 6:00–7:10 p.m. All are welcome to join us in the TBE social hall to meet your Green Team. Let's reimagine our green spaces and look at some more sustainable lawn alternatives. Snack on popcorn while we watch a short video on grass alternatives, and meet with Pierce County Conservation District landscape designers. We’ll have art supplies for the little ones. URJ: Creating Safe Spaces of Belonging in Our Homes (Online) Tuesday, August 22, 10:00–11:00 a.m. Dr. Traci Baxley is a professor, consultant, parenting coach, speaker, mother of five, and the founder of Social Justice Parenting. In this virtual conversation, she’ll explore how intentional efforts to create affirming spaces can impact children's understanding of agency, advocacy, and action. She will offer actionable ways to create safe spaces in your home that will guide your children to become "space-makers" in the world. Learn more and register here.

Community Harvest Day (In-Person) Sunday, August 27, 12:00–4:00 p.m. The community is invited to a Community Harvest Day at Curran Apple Orchard where you are welcome to pick apples from untapped trees. Please bring picking bags from home and limit yourself to two bags to leave enough apples for everyone to enjoy. The Community Harvest Day is an opportunity for people to come and enjoy the park. TBE will be there from 12:00–4:00 p.m. with a picnic area where we will explain the connection between apples and Rosh HaShanah for those who come. Annual Home of Peace Cemetery Pilgrimage (In-person) Sunday, September 10, 11:00 a.m. It is traditional to visit the graves of relatives annually, around the time of the High Holy Days. Temple Beth El clergy will be on hand to meet graveside with family members. Directions to the cemetery are available here. For questions, call the cemetery president, David Aqua, at (253) 753-3134.

High Holiday Food Drive Our annual High Holiday Food Drive is coming up! Check out the August bulletin for full information on this year's campaign. Want to give us a head start? Kick off the food drive by making a donation to Emergency Food Network. And, if you have gently used paper bags in your house that you'd like to contribute for the collection of items, please drop them off at temple no later than August 31.
