What's happening at TBE?
Friday: Erev Shabbat Pride Service (Multi-access) Friday, June 30, 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us online or in person for an inclusive and participatory service during Pride week honoring our LGBTQ+ congregants, families, advocates, and friends. Wine and cheese will be served at 5:15 p.m., and the service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Rabbi Keren Gorban, Cantor Geoff Fine, and members from KESHET Q (Rainbow Queers)—Temple Beth El’s LGBTQ+ chavurah—will be officiating.

Saturday: Torah Study, Shabbat Service (Multi-access) Saturday, July 1, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah Study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. This will be followed by services beginning at 10:00 a.m. (online and in person). All are invited! Reminder: We are doing potluck lunches after services on Saturday. Join us, and bring a dish to share! Dishes can be pescatarian (dairy and fish allowed).
China Lake Restoration (In-person) Saturday, July 1, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. TBE member Gail Sklar manages the monthly volunteer restoration effort at China Lake in Fircrest. If you're interested, let's meetup and support this effort! Gail apparently makes some amazing cookies for the volunteers. Click here to register online. Pride Celebration (In-person) Saturday, July 8, 12:00–6:00 p.m. Come out and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community here in Tacoma! The street festival will be an all ages event that will include a mainstage, hosted by Alma Tacoma, with queer and BIPOC entertainment, a beer garden, Makers Market and so much more! Don't forget to stop by and visit TBE's booth.
Interfaith Pride Celebration (In-person) Sunday, July 9, 1:30 p.m. Join us for the Tacoma and Pierce County interfaith pride celebration. The event takes place at Todd Field and the University of Puget Sound. Please park in Lot 4 at N. 15th St and Union Ave.
JFS Refugee Resettlement CLEVER Networking Event (In-person) Sunday, July 9, 1:45–5:00 p.m. Volunteers needed! JFS (Jewish Family Service) is in search of industry professionals to help serve their refugee and immigrant clients as they prepare to relaunch their careers. Their CLEVER program provides professional case management and mentorship for these clients, who have professional backgrounds from their country of origin and are looking to re-enter that same industry within their new communities. This event is an opportunity for them to practice! Volunteers will staff industry tables, assist with mock interviews, and help clients with their elevator pitches. Professionals are needed from, but not limited to, the following careers: business, technology, engineering, and general human resources. The event will take place at Highline College. Home of Peace Cemetery Cleanup (In-person) Sunday, July 23, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. The Home of Peace Cemetery will have the annual grounds cleanup on Sunday, July 23. Come for an hour or two and perform mitzvahs of cleaning the headstones and picking up trash. All equipment will be provided. Disarming Danger: BeAware Situational Awareness Training (Zoom) Thursday, July 27, 11:00 a.m. Join the Secure Community Network for a webinar to learn how to disarm danger before it occurs with our national BeAware situational awareness training curriculum. Led by Jewish communal security training experts, this webinar will also include insight from former FBI Special Agent and Threat Assessment Expert Molly Amman. KESHET: Equality Act Campaign Keshet, along with our partners at Interfaith Alliance, are mobilizing the faith community in support of nationwide non-discrimination protections. People of faith across the United States are working to ensure that the equal rights and basic dignity of all people are protected. All people should have the basic right to earn a living, have a place to live, and enjoy a meal. The Equality Act would make those rights a reality for LGBTQ+ people. Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity is currently recruiting homeowners. Their home ownership program is for income-qualified people with credit scores of 620+ who can afford a monthly mortgage of $1,600. If you or someone you love is currently renting and has discounted themselves from ever owning a home, give them a nudge to check out our program. Temple Beth El Is Hiring We have begun recruiting for our next TBE executive director. A task force has been put together to oversee the selection process including a crossection of temple staff, board members, congregants, and temple leadership including Greg Kleiner, our TBE president, and Rabbi Gorban.

Keshet Summer Siddur Project Keshet is publishing a youth-created siddur insert—and they’re looking for your involvement! This Siddur insert will be created LGBTQ+ Jewish teens and young adults, inspired by these holy texts and what they mean to you. They’re seeking written pieces (like essays and poetry), visual art (digital and traditional), and even videos and music from creators between the ages of 13 and 24, which will be featured in the form of QR codes. They’d especially like to learn about your experiences being Jewish and LGBTQ+, and/or responses to their prompts, but participants shouldn’t feel limited to just those experiences. In short, LGBTQ+ Jews between the ages of 13 and 24 are invited to submit content inspired by siddurim and Shabbat. They will be accepting submissions for the insert starting June 1, 2023 until July 31, 2023. For more information, please go here.
