Saturday, July 23, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

UPDATE: Saturday services will now be held both in person and online. Torah study remains Zoom only.

Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah Study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. on Zoom. This will be followed by services beginning at 10:00 a.m. The service will be outdoors, so if you attend in person, please remember to dress for the weather. All are invited!

We will no longer be using slides, so if you are attending online and need a siddur, you can either use the flipbook provided by the CCAR (which you can find here), or you can contact the temple office about borrowing one.

Havdalah (Zoom)
Saturday, July 23, 7:30 p.m.

Please celebrate Zoom Havdalah here.
Zoom Meeting ID: 320 3406 647.

What will I need?
Just yourself! However, if you would like to participate in blessings at home, Havdalah blessings are said over wine, besamim (fragrant spices), and a braided Havdalah candle.

What if I don't have those things?
If you don't have a Havdalah candle at home, you can use two candles (or even two matches) joining the flames as the blessing is recited. And if you do not have wine, it can be substituted with something you might use to celebrate or offer to a guest, perhaps coffee or tea. And, most importantly, if you don't have any of these things, just come to say blessings and be together. You can find the Havdalah blessings here.

Opportunities

AIDNW
Advocates for Immigrants in Detention (AIDNW) supports those released from detention as those remaining in detention, and waiting to be released.  To support those who are remaining in detention with recreational or other needed items, please review the updated Amazon Wish List. Items donated from sources other than Amazon should have those items shipped directly to the Hospitality House Office, 1915 S. Sheridan, Tacoma 98405. No women’s clothing is needed at this time.

Jewish Family Services
Jewish Family Services has several ways to volunteer and/or donate to help with resettlement.

  • JFS has a new program for unaccompanied minor refugees and teen/youth survivors of labor and sex trafficking, called the Back Pack Program. This is a humanitarian relief program and requests for this program are fulfilled through the Amazon Wish List.
  • JFS is establishing a volunteer on-call list to welcome new neighbors.  Tasks include storage organization, apartment set-ups, and grocery delivery. There are 2-3 hour shifts, usually in the Kent, WA area. Please email volunteer@jfsseattle.org to get vetted and added to the email distribution list.
  • JFS is seeking a knowledgably financial advisor to mentor, support and educate refugees on our financial system to include explaining topics as mortgages and retirement savings and investments. Contact volunteer@jfsseattle.org for more information.
  • Newly created, Welcome Circle is a group of at least five individuals working together as a core to support refugee families and newcomers into our community. The HIAS website has more information. Families can also be supported by giving through the Amazon Household wish list.
