Havdalah (Zoom)
Saturday, April 9, 7:30 p.m.

Please celebrate Zoom Havdalah here.
Zoom Meeting ID: 320 3406 647.

What will I need?
Just yourself! However, if you would like to participate in blessings at home, Havdalah blessings are said over wine, besamim (fragrant spices), and a braided Havdalah candle.

What if I don't have those things?
If you don't have a Havdalah candle at home, you can use two candles (or even two matches) joining the flames as the blessing is recited. And if you do not have wine, it can be substituted with something you might use to celebrate or offer to a guest, perhaps coffee or tea. And, most importantly, if you don't have any of these things, just come to say blessings and be together. You can find the Havdalah blessings here.

The Diary of Anne Frank at the Lakewood Playhouse (In Person)
Saturday, April 16, 8:00 p.m.

Directed by Melanie Gladstone with collaboration and support with historical/religious context from Cantor Fine and Joel Henken. In this transcendently powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, The Diary of Anne Frank captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence—their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. This is a new adaptation for a new generation. The play runs from Friday, April 15–Sunday, May 8. For more information or to purchase tickets, go here.

Jewish Community Ukraine Challenge
A group of donors will match all donations toward the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis dollar for dollar. The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is the administrative partner joined by Jewish Family Services, Stroum JCC, Holocaust Center for Humanity, Hillel and Kline Galland to raise funds.
Funding will help provide temporary housing, medical supplies and food for the Ukrainian refugee community. Jewish Family Services anticipates that it will be resettling Jewish and non-Jewish refugee people from the Ukraine.  Donations can be made to JFS through this challenge.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused one of the most severe humanitarian crises since World War II. Over three million have been forced to flee, and Ukraine has been home to 400,000 Jews. Donations can be made online through the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle here. You can mail a check to the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle at 2033 6th Ave., Suite 810, Seattle, WA 98121. Be sure to note it is for Ukraine and specify how you wish to split your donation between overseas and local support in ten percent (10%) increments. If you don’t specify a split, 100% of your gift will be designated and sent overseas. For questions, contact the Federation team at (206) 774-2259 or ukrainechallenge@jewishinseattle.org.

Keshet's Dare to Dream Campaign
Your generous support for the Dare to Dream campaign not only honors Idit Klein’s 20 years of visionary, compassionate, and chutzpadik Keshet leadership, it helps us write the next chapter of our journey toward full LGBTQ equality in Jewish life. Your support of Dare to Dream provides the resources for Idit and Keshet to take on new challenges with boldness and a visionary commitment to equality and belonging for us all. Make your contribution here.

Provide help and assistance to Ukraine
You can respond to the crisis in Ukraine by supporting the special appeal of the Tacoma Jewish Community Fund, working with the Jewish Federation of North America and affiliated agencies. Ukraine’s estimated 200,000 Jews rely on the strong support of the Federation that is today serving as a lifeline for the community. Special Appeal Funds will be allocated through the Jewish Federations’ core partners: The Jewish Agency for Israel, The Joint Distribution Committee and World ORT, and others on the ground in Ukraine. This emergency funding will focus on helping people make Aliyah to Israel; securing local community institutions; maintaining welfare services; assisting internally displaced people; securing temporary housing; maintaining communications; and securing Jewish schools and training staff to manage crisis needs.

To contribute and support this appeal, please send your donation, noted for Ukraine Special Appeal, to: Tacoma Jewish Community Fund, P.O. Box 64831, University Place, WA 98464, or call Judith Florence at (253) 752-3621 for more information about making a donation.
