Havdalah (Zoom)
Saturday, February 5, 7:30 p.m.
Please celebrate Zoom Havdalah here.
Zoom Meeting ID: 320 3406 647.
What will I need?
Just yourself! However, if you would like to participate in blessings at home, Havdalah blessings are said over wine, besamim (fragrant spices), and a braided Havdalah candle.
What if I don't have those things?
If you don't have a Havdalah candle at home, you can use two candles (or even two matches) joining the flames as the blessing is recited. And if you do not have wine, it can be substituted with something you might use to celebrate or offer to a guest, perhaps coffee or tea. And, most importantly, if you don't have any of these things, just come to say blessings and be together. You can find the Havdalah blessings here.

TBE Beit Sefer Religious School—Chesed: Random Acts of Kindness
Sunday, February 13, 9:00 a.m.
Sunday, February 13 is our next in-person day! The theme is Chesed: Random Acts of Kindness. What a Jewish concept. What better way to teach our children about the importance of giving back to others by hosting our very own workshops where we will be creating artistic and thoughtful gifts for family, friends, and/or neighbors. Parents—We need you! Please contact Leslie Bright (leslie@tbetacoma.org) or your child’s teacher to help.
Domestic Violence: Recognizing the Bigger Picture
Thursday, February 24, 6:00 p.m. via Zoom
The words “domestic violence” bring to mind many different images for folks. Often, this includes a picture of physical violence in a partnered relationship. But it can be so much more, including financial abuse, isolation, psychological harm, spiritual abuse or trauma, emotional manipulation and control. When we learn of a friend or family member experiencing harm in their relationship, many of us freeze, unsure of what to do next. This training will cover dynamics and complexities of relationship violence, the greater impact on families, and how you can provide support. Trainer Lindley King (they/them) has strived to bring healing to survivors of gender-based violence since 2011, holding multiple roles including shelter advocate, crisis line advocate, and therapist. To register, please email Kim Holland, Director of Project DVORA, at kholland@jfsseattle.org.
Opportunities
Walkers Wanted
Has the pandemic slowed you down? Want to be ready for an active summer? Do you do better with an accountability buddy? It looks like running and walking events will be returning this year. I am getting a group together with an eye to participating in the Sound to Narrows 5k/12k event on June 11, 2022 (and maybe more beyond that). All ages and fitness levels welcome. Don’t let a current lack of activity stop you—we’re all starting with baby steps! Email Carolyn Elsey at carolyn@caelseylaw.com to sign-up and work out a schedule.
Adult Home Sharing Program (Associated Ministries)
Home sharing is a simple idea and a reemerging strategy to address the crises of the lack of affordable housing, an aging population, and increasing homelessness in our communities. Home sharing is a living arrangement where Home Providers offer accommodations to Home Seekers in exchange for an agreed-upon level of support in the form of financial contribution, assistance with household tasks, transportation, or companionship. Home sharing fosters independence and community between housemates and neighborhoods. For more information on becoming a home provider or a home seeker, please go here.
Camp Scholarship Available
The Tacoma Jewish Community Fund, through the Jewish Federation of North America, is happy to announce a $1,000 scholarship for any first time young camper from Pierce County. For information about the Michael and Anita Siegel Happy Camper scholarship go here. These grants are first come, first served. Families must apply by Friday, March 4, 2022 to be considered.
