Havdalah (Zoom)
Saturday, January 22, 7:30 p.m.

Please
celebrate Zoom Havdalah here.
Zoom Meeting ID: 320 3406 647.

What will I need?
Just yourself! However, if you would like to participate in blessings at home, Havdalah blessings are said over wine, besamim (fragrant spices), and a braided Havdalah candle.

What if I don't have those things?
If you don't have a Havdalah candle at home, you can use two candles (or even two matches) joining the flames as the blessing is recited. And if you do not have wine, it can be substituted with something you might use to celebrate or offer to a guest, perhaps coffee or tea. And, most importantly, if you don't have any of these things, just come to say blessings and be together. You can find the
Havdalah blessings here.

TBE Speaker Series
Thursday, January 27, 11:00 a.m.–noon

Join us in the temple social hall or on Zoom for a talk given by UPS Associate Professor Andreas Udbye. This event is free and presented by Lamed Vav.
Global measures of variables such as happiness, human development, corruption, economic freedom, democracy, and rule of law show that the Nordics are consistently excelling and that the United States is lagging and declining. Would this be the time to stem this development, swallow our pride, and perhaps take a serious look at what the Nordic countries are doing right? Could we learn from them and selectively apply similar policies to our advantage over here?

Please call (253) 564-7101 or email
olivia@tbetacoma.org in the temple office to make a reservation.

Shabbat Guest Speaker
Friday, January 28, 6:00 p.m.

Our local history buff, Deb Freedman, will be our guest speaker at the early service on Friday, January 28. Deb’s topic will be "Learning Something New," as she shares recent discoveries about our community’s Jewish history. Don’t miss this popular speaker and her surprising findings.

Opportunities

Help Needed for Purim Boxes
Requesting donors! Purim is coming up soon on March 16 and with it, Sisterhood’s only fundraiser—the wonderful Purim boxes. The funds collected from the Purim box event support the religious school students and staff, programming, and the General Fund, just to name a few. For it to be a success, fun and tasty items are needed for the Purim boxes. That’s where a few helpful folks can help us so we collect enough items to fill the 325 boxes this year!

Please let us know soon if you can assist by either donating the cost of an item or purchase a portion of an item. We are asking for items to be at the temple by March 4.

Please contact Jani Doctor, Sisterhood Procurement, by email at
jani@tripsnships.com or by text at (253) 223-4705 if you would like make a donation, or if you have any questions.

Information

Adult Education Registration
Registration is now open for the spring semester of adult education. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, nearly all of the classes will be virtual only during February. We will reassess and hope to offer multi-access classes in March. Rabbi Tiwy’s Joy of Hebrew Calligraphy will still be offered in person, and all students must submit proof of vaccination when registering (if not already on file). Rabbi Kadden’s continuing study of the novels of Elie Wiesel begins January 30, and most other classes begin in February, so the time to register is now. The full schedule is in the January bulletin and available online. Some are experiencing delays in getting text materials, so please don’t wait. Go ahead, click here, now. The Wednesday Stitch and Kvetch drop-in sessions have been postponed until March.

Religious School Reminder
Effective January 2, 2022, all children ages 5+ must have proof of full COVID-19 vaccination on file to attend in-person classes or activities. To submit proof of vaccination for your child, you may email a copy or photo of their record to Olivia at
olivia@tbetacoma.org.
