Havdalah
Saturday, October 16th, 7:30 p.m. (Zoom)
Please follow the link to celebrate Zoom Havdalah: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3203406647. Meeting ID: 320 3406 647.
What will I need? Just yourself! However, if you would like to participate in blessings at home, Havdalah blessings are said over wine, besamim (fragrant spices), and a braided Havdalah candle.
What if I don't have those things? If you don't have a Havdalah candle at home, you can use two candles (or even two matches) joining the flames as the blessing is recited. And if you do not have wine, it can be substituted with something you might use to celebrate or offer to a guest, perhaps coffee or tea. And, most importantly, if you don't have any of these things, just come to say blessings and be together. Please find a link to the Havdalah blessings here.

Jewish Family Service and Tikkun Olam information: help needed
Sunday afternoon, October 17th
This coming Sunday, Ben Zivan, Marlene Motola, John Barnes and Vivian Morrison will be picking up furniture donated by four households of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on the Narrows to be made available to the JFS Refugee and Immigrant Services program. Vivian will store these furniture pieces until needed by JFS. Additional help is needed. One more vehicle plus able hands to move a small couch and dresser, and more hands to help Marlene, John, Ben and Vivian would ease the load. If you have a free day on Sunday and a strong back and hands, and would like to help for a short while in the afternoon, please contact Vivian at viviansm@earthlink.net.

Experience Leonard Cohen at the CJM
Sunday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m.
A CJM Educator will give an overview of the exhibition, sharing both the biography of Leonard Cohen as well as how his work inspired and informed the four artists on view. Via installation and archival images, we will engage in conversation about the power of words. Leonard Cohen’s words gave voice to the human condition, in all of its grace and imperfection—and to this day, they continue to inspire generations of artists, musicians, and writers.
This inspiration is at the heart of Experience Leonard Cohen: a series of four solo exhibitions that present immersive and intimate artworks by contemporary artists George Fok, Judy Chicago, Candice Breitz, and Marshall Trammell, all inspired by the life and work of Leonard Cohen (1934–2016), the influential musician, man of letters, and global icon from Montréal, Canada.
Cost is $7 per screen—how many can you fit on your couch? Maximum of 25 screens. If there’s enough interest, a second showing may be available at 3:00 p.m. To purchase your virtual ticket, visit tinyurl.com/tbesisterhoodsquare and enter $7 as your donation amount. For more information, contact Marlene Motola at mmotolapnwad@gmail.com.

Help re-build the Islamic Center of Tacoma after arson
As many of you have heard, the Islamic Center of Tacoma was a victim of arson on October 11th. While congregants of the mosque were gathered for evening prayer inside, an arsonist lit their building on fire. Fortunately, nobody was injured. However, their place of worship will need to be rebuilt.
Many of you have reached out to see how you can support our Muslim neighbors. Currently, there is an online fundraiser to help cover the costs associated with rebuilding. You can donate at LaunchGood: click here to donate.
Associated Ministries will keep you updated on other ways you can support our Muslim friends as we learn about those needs and opportunities. Thank you for your love and support of our community!
Questions or comments? Contact Sandy Windley at sandyw@associatedministries.org.
Can you give these brothers a home?
