Music
At Temple Beth El, music is one of the foundations of our community. We want congregants to be awakened to the rich, diverse symphony that we call Jewish music. We offer an opportunity for you to explore and to choose those styles of music that resonate with you, touch your soul and lead you to holy moments.
Come and explore the many music opportunities at Temple Beth El including diverse musical arrangements of prayer at a multitude of spiritual and participatory worship services, our monthly Choral Shabbat and High Holy Day services featuring our choir, Shir Simcha (joyous song), our annual religious school and adult Purim spiels, and our annual Reutlinger Music Concert, generously funded by the Reutlinger family. To showcase our many musical congregants, TBE hosts an annual coffeehouse talent show.
We are constantly exploring new avenues for congregational participation through Jewish music.
Shir Simcha (Joyous Song) Choir
Our all-volunteer choir typically sings at services and events throughout the year, and extensively during the High Holy Days. Check our calendar for specific dates and upcoming events.
Whether you have extensive choral experience or if you are an adult who simply enjoys singing, there is a place for you in our choir. Our choir rehearses with Debbie Jaap on Wednesday nights from 7:15–8:15 PM throughout the year.
Reading ability is encouraged but not a requirement. The music is all transliterated and MP3s of the music are distributed as needed for added learning support. We explore a diverse repertoire that includes Chassidic, Art Song, Israeli, Yemenite, Yiddish, Baroque, Traditional and contemporary Jewish music. Let your voice ring out in the Temple Beth El choir.
Please email Debbie Jaap at choirdirector@tbetacoma.org for more information about joining Shir Simcha.
