High Holidays
L'Shanah Tovah Tikateivu!
L’Shanah tovah tikateivu! May you be inscribed for a good year.
We would like to invite you to join us for our services and programs. If you have not joined us in the past, we are sure you will find our High Holy Day services to be warm, welcoming and spiritually fulfilling.
From the beginning of the month of Elul through Sh'mini Atzeret-Simchat Torah, we are encouraged to consider how the past year's new beginning has gone. What did we try to do? Where did we succeed, when did we fail, how have we grown? Then, as we approach the new year, we plan again. What needs to be kept, discarded, or rearranged in order to be more successful—whatever success means and however it looks—this year?
High Holy Day Service Schedule
Members
If you are a member of Temple Beth El in good standing, you will automatically receive your complimentary passes in the mail and do not need to register for services. If you have family members in town that would also like to attend services, please contact Olivia at olivia@tbetacoma.org.
Non-Member Registration
We would be grateful for your generous support of Temple Beth El so that we can continue our sacred work as a community. We suggest a donation of $360 for an individual adult pass and $540 for a family. All donation amounts are welcome, so if the suggested amounts are not affordable, please make a donation in any amount you are comfortable with. Should you decide to join our congregational family, this donation will be applied toward a annual membership commitment for you and/or your family.
Our family and tot High Holy Day services are open to all and don't require registration. You can also register to attend online or in person.
We look forward to having you join us on Rosh HaShanah and/or Yom Kippur. Please call the temple office at (253) 564-7101 or email olivia@tbetacoma.org if you have any questions.
Pre-registration has now ended. If you would still like to attend Yom Kippur services, you can make a donation and acquire a pass at the door during any scheduled service.
High Holy Day Appeal
As we gather to observe the High Holy Days and reflect on the past year, we are reminded of the profound sense of community and connection that our synagogue provides. This season is a time for introspection, renewal, and coming together to support one another. As we move toward 5785, let us each take a moment to consider how we can continue to build and strengthen our community.
We rely on the generosity of our members and supporters to sustain and enhance the programs, services, and community that are so important to us all. Your contributions enable us to:
-
Offer inspiring High Holy Day services, weekly Shabbat services, and other important celebrations that bring us together.
-
Provide educational programs for all ages, fostering a love of learning and Jewish values.
-
Support social action initiatives that make a tangible difference in our community.
-
Sustain temple operations and maintain our facilities, ensuring a welcoming environment for all.
Your support is crucial. Our appeal is that, when you decide to give, you do so with n’divut ha-lev, generosity of heart. Through our actions, together, we will maintain and grow our community.
Every gift, no matter the size, makes a significant impact and is deeply appreciated.
Book of Remembrance
It is our tradition each year to publish a Book of Remembrance that we distribute at the Yom Kippur Yizkor service. This year's service will be on Saturday, October 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
We invite you to include the names of your loved ones in this annual book (names inscribed on our Memorial Tablets are automatically included).
Submissions for the Book of Remembrance are now closed.
High Holy Day Food Drive
Food insecurity is a huge concern in our community, 1 in 10 individuals in Pierce County experience food insecurity. This means that those people don’t know where their next meal or their children's next meal would be coming from. Visits to food pantries continue to grow each year, and with cuts to enhanced programs like SNAP, there is no relief in sight. While it may feel like the need is insurmountable, we have the tools to make a real impact on hunger in our community.
We are fortunate that we have a such a generous community. Over the past several years, we have been able to help those experiencing food insecurity with contributions of food to the Jackson Street Food Bank as well as funds to support organizations that can leverage our dollars to purchase even more food! Our hope is that we can ask our community during this year's High Holy Days to give a contribution of $18, $36, $90, $180, or any amount that works for you, to the Emergency Food Network (EFN). EFN has been a program in Pierce County since it's inception in 1982, eventually becoming a part of Associated Ministries in 1985. In 1991, EFN became it's own stand alone non-profit, with the knowledge that hunger was an issue we needed to prioritize.
OUR ASK:
- Collect a bag at one of the many services we will be holding during Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. We will also have the bags available during the month of September for you to pick up. Once you have a bag, please fill it with some of the items that EFN has listed as most necessary. These items include non-perishables as well as feminine products, and baby items such as diapers, formula, and wipes.
- Making a donation is another way you can participate. There are several ways you can donate, but the most efficient is by following the link to the EFN food drive page, set up specifically for Temple Beth El. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Emergency Food Network, so that no person goes hungry. For every $1 donated, EFN can distribute 2 meals to our neighbors in need. Donate here: https://bit.ly/4fOV9ge.
If you prefer to make a monetary contribution directly to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the food drive, you can do that by dropping a check off at temple. We will collect them and deliver to them after our holiday drive is complete. Additionally, we have always supported Nourish Pierce County, which is the organization that works directly with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. You can make a contribution to them by sending a check made out to Nourish Pierce County and dropping it off at the temple office. EFN and Nourish Pierce County work together on the issue of food insecurity, so supporting either organization will make a difference in Pierce County.
Thank you for your contribution and we appreciate what it means to help those in our community struggling with basic needs such as food.
